GMT is an open source collection of ~65 tools for manipulating geographic and Cartesian data sets (including filtering, trend fitting, gridding, projecting, etc.) and producing Encapsulated PostScript File (EPS) illustrations ranging from simple x-y plots via contour maps to artificially illuminated surfaces and 3-D perspective views; the GMT supplements add another ~70 more specialized tools. GMT supports over 30 map projections and transformations and comes with support data such as GSHHG coastlines, rivers, and political boundaries.

More information is available on the GMT web site.

Usage

First you need to decide on the version of the software you want to use. Use

to check what versions are available. We normally recommend using the latest version available. For example, to load the 5.1.0 version of GMT use

module load gmt/5.1.0

For more details on using modules see our modules help guide.
