There are two ways to do this:

If you just want to disconnect from the virtual desktop and leave it running so that you can return to it a short time later, then simply close the browser tab.
If you temporarily lose connectivity to the desktop (ege.g. network dropout) then the effect is the same.
VDI sessions will run up to a maximum duration ( that you specified when launching).
The maximum time limit will depend on the resources you request for the session - see Queue Limits page for more details
The ARE VDI App allocates dedicated compute resources for each user and allows users to session. You can select from several sizes when starting a new session. predefined session sizes or manually specify what you need.
If you attempt to use more CPU resources than selectedyou requested, your processing will be constrained to this limit.
If you attempt to use more memory than selected you requested, your VDI session will be terminated.
