Overview

The 6th APAC HPC-AI Competition, organized by the HPC-AI Advisory Council, National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore and National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) Australia will be announced on February 28th, 2023 during SCAsia23.

High-performance computing and artificial intelligence are the most essential tools fueling the advancement of science. In order to handle the ever-growing demands for higher computation performance and the increase in the complexity of research problems, the world of scientific computing continues to re-innovate itself in a fast pace.

The award ceremony will take place at the SupercomputingAsia 2024 conference in Australia.

Rules

The competition is open to students from universities and technical institutes. Complete team (students and a coach) must be designated at the time of submission for participation. Teams must prepare and submit a proposal which includes the following:

  1. Team members, including the year which the students enrolled in the educational institution
  2. Biographies (Individual and group pictures are strongly encouraged, but not mandatory)
  3. Educational institution logo (both .jpg and .eps formats)
  4. Point of contact information (Name, address, title/position, phone number, email), the person responsible for distributing information to all team members
  5. Why are you participating?
  6. Why do you believe that the team you put together is a winning team?
  7. What diverse skillsets does your team possess?
  8. What experience do you and your team members have?


Please note the following rules:

  1. There is no limitation on the number of students per team
  2. Students can be undergraduate or graduate
  3. The HPC-AI Advisory Council will determine the participating teams according to their submission details
  4. The HPC-AI Advisory Council is not liable for any costs and expenses incurred by the participants in the preparation or presentation of the project
  5. The HPC-AI Advisory Council may disqualify teams based on failure to complete the competition’s tasks, or other reasons
  6. The HPC-AI Advisory Council will determine the winning teams based on their achievements, presentations and other factors
  7. Participants shall submit their source code and other required documents in accordance with the submission deadline.

FAQs From Past Competitions

1. Is it possible to replace team members after submission?
– Yes

2. Is the competition also open for non-academia research institutes?
-  Yes

3. Is it possible to have more than one coach for a team?
-  Yes

4. Is it possible to have more than one team from an institute? Can two teams share the same coach?
-  Yes and Yes

5. Will coaches receive any certificate / recognition? Will non-wining teams receive any certificate / recognition / honorable mention?
-  All teams members will receive a certificate for their participation

6. We need to send the Educational Institution logo (in .jpg and .eps format) along with our proposal. What is the process of sending those?
-  Once we finalize the list of competing teams, we will contact the teams to provide the logo. If there is a link to download the logo, please include it in the proposal.

7. What is the exact time of the submission? On the website, only a date is provided.
-  It is the end of the day (at any time zone).

8. Will the HPC-AI Advisory Council give the students training, especially the new participants?
-  Yes. HPC-AI Advisory Council will arrange the training for students to help them to understand the application, and will provide them reference guidelines on how to optimize the application.
