Welcome to NCI's Geophysics Community Space

Geophysics HPC software and data has many applications in the resources sector as well as being vital in minimising risk and damage from natural hazards and human activities.  We have built a repository of national research and government data available to researchers on NCI, and where possible, also made available publicly through access via data services.

Our activity is rapidly addressing some major gaps. First, many geophysical datasets have never been publicly released because in some domains it is not general practice to make underpinning raw data accessible, and/or there is no infrastructure capability to make large volume data accessible.  Secondly, geophysical data have been acquired by universities, industry, Federal/State Government agencies since 1950, but have lacked common processes to create modern and standardised data products.

Geophysics 2030 Project

The next phase of our activity, the Geophysics 2030 project, will focus on bringing the rawer forms of data from Australian research infrastructure under the NCRIS program, produced by AuScope and TERN. We will process this data to a common standard using supercomputers at NCI, and combine this data with the existing Government geophysical data assets on NCI. This integration will enable more rapid data processing for 2030 next-generation scalable and data-intensive computation. We will also make available a range of (open) software and example Jupyter notebooks, so that research teams will then be able to more easily analyse large volumes of high-resolution data.

Announcements

Magnetotelluric codes have now been moved to project up99

NCI has moved the Magnetotelluric software out of project my80 and into project up99. Please join up99 via Mancini to access these codes.
