This is the homepage for information and updates relating to the Bureau of Meteorology Australian Unified Radar Archive (AURA) datasets for use by the Australian community.
AURA is divided into datasets from the operational weather radar network (project rq0) and research radars (project hj10). Research radars include radars operated by CSIRO, Monash University and the University of Queensland. Within each of these groups exists multiple collections of different datasets targetting specific end-users and applications.
The following levels are used across AURA to organise datasets:
- Level 0: Unmodified data in the original representation (mostly archived on tape).
- Level 1: Unmodified data in a modern representation (e.g., odimh5, cfradial).
- Level 1b ppi: Corrected and calibrated data in cfradial.
- Level 1b grid: Corrected and calibrated data that has been interpolated onto Cartesian coordinates (netCDF)
- Level 2: Daily files containing 2D grids for each radar scan of a derived field (e.g., Severe Hail Index)
Rainfields datasets are similar to the level 2 convection are specifically for rainfall applications. New users are recommended to use level 2 or Rainfields products.
Further information on dataset contents, metadata, example code and data usage are provided on each collection page.
