GaussView is a graphical user interface designed to help you prepare input for submission to Gaussian and to examine graphically the output that Gaussian produces.


To use GaussView, set the paths using

module load gaussview

See our information on the modules environment for more information.

GaussView is then invoked by typing gv from an X-window session.

XQuartz and macOS

If you are using XQuartz on macOS to run GaussView, you need to configure XQuartz to allow indirect GLX contexts. You can do this by quitting XQuartz, then in the macOS Terminal application run:

defaults write org.macosforge.xquartz.X11 enable_iglx -bool true

License requirements

Under the current license (finalised April 2010) GaussView is available as a Supercomputer Centre license to anyone using Gaussian, see Licensing Restrictions Section for Gaussian.
