AuScope MT data restructuring (my80)

The University of Adelaide Magnetotellurics Data collection at NCI (project my80) is undergoing some changes that will affect access to data via both THREDDS and directly on the filesystem. The changes are currently planned to take place on 9 January and will involve moving the current datasets within the collection and some changing to the data folder name. The records in the NCI data catalogue will be updated to align with the new my80 directory structure.

Reason of the change

The current collection under my80 only contains magnetotelluric data of the University of Adelaide, which is part of the AuScope magnetotelluric data collection. This restructuring takes place in preparation of my80 to host the full AuScope magnetotelluric data collection in the future.

The changes are:

• We will add in the higher level folder /g/data/my80/AuScope_MT_collection. The current top-level directories (States_and_Territories and AusLAMP) will become subdirectories within the my80 collection.

• The current UofA collection (/g/data/my80/States_and_Territories) will be placed under the new folder: /g/data/my80/AuScope_MT_collection/The_University_of_Adelaide_Legacy_MT_collection/States_and_Territories. We aim to maintain all DOI's we currently have for these datasets. Minor changes within States_and_Territories:

  • Four empty subdirectories will be removed: Qld, NT, NSW/Broadband, Tas/Broadband
  • Two files related to "Electromagnetic surveys conducted in Australia with public funding" and the 2009 Antarctica survey were moved into the new subfolder "National". For details see below.

• The /g/data/my80/AusLAMP collection will be moved to /g/data/my80/AuScope_MT_collection/AuScope_AusLAMP in preparation for additional AuScope AusLAMP datasets that will be published in the near future. Datasets under /g/data/my80/AuScope_MT_collection/AuScope_AusLAMP will be organised by the AusLAMP surveys that were collected within a state, except for the Musgrave Province survey.

• The folder name of the AusLAMP Musgraves Province dataset (SA_AusLAMP_MT_Survey_Musgraves_APY_2016_to_2018) will be changed to Musgrave_APY. 

• Some of the survey sites that are currently stored under gdata/my80/AusLAMP/SA_AusLAMP_MT_Survey_Musgraves_APY_2016_to_2018/SA/ and /WA/ will be moved into the newly created directory gdata/my80/AusLAMP/SA_AusLAMP_MT_Survey_Musgraves_APY_2016_to_2018/NT/. This change reflects  the recent discovery that a few of the WA/NT and SA/NT border sites were collected on the Northern Territory side due to the WA/SA scrub/topography not being suitable for a helicopter to land. Some of the datasets we have already published under this collection may need to be re-arranged and re-named. For details about which sites will be moved please see below.

• Once these changes have been implemented, the AuScope_AusLAMP collection will contain the following:

  • Musgraves_APY – this survey has been divided into the states SA, WA and NT. Some of the datasets we have already published under this collection will need to be re-arranged and re-named. For more details, please see our Opus page (link below).

  • Tasmania – BLANK FOLDER. This folder will contain the AusLAMP Mainland_Tasmania_and_Flinders_Island survey that will be published in the near future.
