From the 'File' menu, select 'Open' to load a new file.

For this example, we will open a file from the CMIP6 Data Collection. This example file can be found here:

When loading netCDF files, Paraview will ask what reader you would like to use. Select the NetCDF Reader option:

To view the dataset, click on the "eye" located to the left of the filename in the Pipeline Browser:

Next, select the variable and type of visualisation from the Paraview toolbar. For example, here we are selecting hfss as our variable and surface as the type of plot:

To modify the viewing/plotting options:

  1. Navigate to the Pipeline Browser
  2. Find the "Coloring" section and select "Edit"
  3. Select the "rescale to custom range" option and define your own min/max colour range.

The "Choose preset" option can be used to change the colourmap:

Custom backgrounds can also be used. Try to download an image of your choice and set it as a background:

For files with a time axis, the top tool bar will allow you to navigate through time:

Select the "Play" button to watch an animation of this example data.
