Data collections are stored on NCI's Lustre '/g/data' filesystems, which are accessible from both GadiAustralian Research Environment (ARE) and its apps, and our Specialised Environments such as Data Analysis

This section covers how to use the data catalogue information to access data locally from these systems.

You must have an active NCI user account and be connected to a NCI computational project to access data directly at NCI. If you do not have an account, please see the User Account Registration for more information.

Data registration

Following your account set-up and connection to compute project, registration is required to access any data collections within NCI. In the Data Catalogue, all dataset and collection records contain a 'Register for local access' link that will direct users to the MyNCI User Portal to complete this registration step.

Select the 'Join' tab at the top of the project description to request project membership (i.e., register).

After acknowledging any licensing and/or terms of use listed within the project 'Overview' description, select 'Request Membership'. The NCI Data Collections team monitor requests during business hours and aim to approve requests as quickly as possible.

Local access

Once a registered member of the project (i.e., collection), all the datasets contained within that collection can be accessible (read-only) from compute jobs on Gadi, ARE apps, or our Data Analysis Specialised Environment. The data location can be found in the 'NCI local file path' field within the Data Catalogue records.

For example, after logging into Gadi or the VDI app the 'cd' command can be used to navigate to the above dataset:

$ cd /g/data/zv2/agcd/v1

For users unfamiliar with Linux commands (or those in need of a quick refresher), the Gadi User Guide(To be archived) includes a helpful Linux Command Quick Reference page.
